Sarah Mitton is the reigningWorld Indoor Champion in shot put and will be the first Canadian to take the stage at the Diamond League Final. Scheduled to compete at 1:43pm EST on Sept. 13, Mitton will look to continue her impressive form from this past season. Mitton fouled out of the shot put circle on her third and final attempt at this year’s Paris Olympics, partly due to rainy conditions. She finished last in a field of 12 competitors despite starting on pace for an Olympic medal after her first two throws. Her performance in Brussels will be a key test as she seeks to close out the season on a high note following a disappointing Olympics.

Alysha Newman captured a bronze medal in pole vault at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and will look to ride a spectacular season at the Diamond League final at 1:51pm EST on Sept. 14. Newman’s remarkable Olympic achievement highlighted her determination following her struggles with a concussion just two years prior. Her appearance at the Diamond League Final is yet another opportunity for her to demonstrate her world-class ability in the pole vault alongside her trademark showmanship.

Marco Arop was the Olympic silver medalist in the 800 meters in Paris. Arop will be the last Canadian competitor to take to the track or the field at the Diamond League Final. Arop threatened Kenya’s David Rudisha’s longstanding 800m world record at the Paris Games. His next opportunity at making history begins at 3:40 pm EST on Sept. 14. His performance will be the penultimate event of the Diamond League season, offering him a chance to run the two laps faster than any other athlete in history.

Aside from only the Olympic Games, The Diamond League Final is the most competitive event in the world of Track and Field. This weekend’s final in Brussels is set to be an exciting conclusion to the 2024 track and field season, as Canadian stars are poised to make their mark on the international stage.
