Team Canada made a notable impact at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, capturing three medals and finishing 22nd in the overall medal standings. Despite a competitive field, the Canadian athletes showcased their talent and determination, with standout performances in both individual and relay events.

Rachel Forsyth added to Canada’s medal haul with a silver in the women’s 1500 meters. Forsyth clocked a time of 4:17.94, finishing second in a highly competitive race. Her impressive run demonstrated her endurance and strategic racing, earning her a well-deserved spot on the podium.

Dianna Proctor delivered a stellar performance in the women’s 400 meters, earning a silver medal with a time of 51.98 seconds. Her race was a display of speed and endurance, marking her as a top contender in the event. Procter’s silver medal was a bright spot of the Canadian team’s achievements, reflecting her exceptional preparation and execution of the race.

Team Canada’s relay squad was upgraded to a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay following a dramatic turn of events that resulted in the disqualification of team Australia. The Canadian team’s initial fourth-place finish was elevated when the disqualification was announced during an interview with Canadian athletes. The women’s 4X100m team including Savannah Blair, Dianna Proctor, Ashley Odiase and the CTFL’s Roxanne Tedga finished with a 44.60 seconds behind team Jamaica and Switzerland. The relay team’s upgraded result over Australia provided a thrilling conclusion to their championships.

While Team Canada finished 22nd in the medal table, their performances in Lima showcase potential of the team and the three medals highlight the promising future of Canadian athletics amidst the rise of established stars.
