Christopher Morales Williams, the 19-year-old sprinting sensation from Vaughan, Ont., has left the athletic world awe-inspired with his remarkable feat at the SEC Championships. On Feb. 24, Morales-Williams shattered expectations by breaking the 400m indoor world record with a time of 44.49 seconds.
His unprecedented performance not only secured him the SEC championship but also positioned him as a formidable contender for the upcoming NCAA Finals, scheduled to be held at The Track at New Balance on Mar. 8, 2024. Morales Williams’ incredible time surpassed the previous record set by American Michael Norman at the NCAA Division 1 indoor championships, which couldn’t be ratified as a world mark.
In a display of sheer athleticism and determination, Morales Williams sliced nearly a second off his previous personal best, previously set at 45.39 during the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in South Carolina on Feb. 9. As the anticipation builds for the NCAA Finals, all eyes are on Morales-Williams as he continues to push the boundaries of sprinting excellence on the global stage.
Edit*
Morales Williams’ record was not ratified by World Athletics due to an issue with the starting blocks.
